Nevertheless: The Shapes of Love

I finished this series last week and fell completely in love with it. I haven’t seen the Korean version because I’ve heard of mixed reviews. Personally, I think JDramas have always potrayed romance a tad bit better, in my opinion. (I’ve been a fan since 2009 of both genres; really telling my age there.)

I wanted to yap a bit since I don't have a community to talk about this with.

These screenshots do not do justice to just how comforting Game is in this moment. His voice is so, so soft and kind and he doesn't try to pretend like Diew didn't just completely bomb the presentation, but he's also offering very honest and practical reasons for Diew to feel better. Sometimes when friends try to comfort you and they tell you that it's not a big deal or it wasn't as bad as it seems, it feels more like they're downplaying or not acknowledging how awful you feel but I like that Game isn't doing that.

But most importantly, he's not letting Diew face it alone:

I know everyone has things on their plate and so sometimes it's not always possible to offer to walk with someone through the difficult thing, but when someone DOES offer, goodness it can feel so, so good!

MND is so good at portraying genuinely good friendships. God's entire friend group, while chaotic, is just so enthusiastically supportive of each other. And I love that Diew and Game's friendship is built on these genuine moments of connection and common interest. You can really see why they're friends. Sometimes in shows there's a sense that if these people weren't just in the same class/thrown together by the situation, they may not really be friends but Diew and Game's friendship feels like they'd've found each other even if they weren't in the same class(es?) together (probably through seeing each others names on the same books they borrow from the library or some other cute shit like that). Literally every time they're together its just wholesome and lovely and good. <3

pierresteban in which pierres kid of irrelevant origins moves up into like... f3 or f2 so its sorta serious now and pierre shows up to most of his races and he now has to cope with esteban staying in f1 in a trackside role post retirement (or even, and i think this could be a real fun thing, he is majorly involved with a lower formula team. pierres kid ends up in that team)

#bonus points for the kid really clicking with esteban/liking esteban from when he was racing or something (unhinged edition is to give #esteban a world championship but idek pierresteban to me are successful midfielders usually) and and pierre has to deal with it #cause as established many times: to me pierre is the one insane over esteban meanwhile esteban has been over it for years #also consider girldad pierre for no reason other than i think hed be fun as a girldad and its like... sure there have been other girls who #made it into f3 and even f2 (and maybe f1 like idk) but you know. his kid fought through f1a and freca and f4 and everything and #its no longer unthinkable but a girl in this high junior formulae is still rare so pierres super proud and invested #and then he pulls up for her first race as a good single unemployed dad with too much money does and is like shit...#i forgot esteban is involved with thsi team how do i make an exit before he notices me (you do not pierre. thats the thing)#eric.txt

i think it says something very interesting about kipperlilly's character that she chose to go to therapy with jawbone. and even continued for three whole years -- based on the riz stuff and the info from the files, it seems like she was there making some genuine effort or at least being truthful. which, if she was some pure evil scheming villian, would be deeply unstrategic -- revealing these sentiments to someone who lives with her rivals? penelope everpetal (our blueprint for a fh teen character who is mostly presented as "simply evil") certainly wasn't going to jawbone or that other guy, she wasn't even confiding in sam! if this is a long game effort to take over the world or something, going to counseling like this would just be an unnecessary risk (especially because jawbone literally lives with half of tbk) or a waste of time.

so imo this suggests that something must have changed, or some influencing factor must have come into play (maybe over the night yorb summer?) that led klck and the ratgrinders to be in this position -- like the level of relevance and the intra-group issues (ex: buddy homicide lmao) given to the ratgrinders make it soooo clear to me that they're not just pure evil fodder for the bad kids to beat in a fight. after all, in a season about the harms of a school system that pushes overworking and grades over students' wellbeing, aren't the ratgrinders, these kids who've fully bought into it at great personal expense, victims too?
